Stylish Fabric + Simplicity S8839
If there is a chance to look and feel like a feminine pirate…I’m all in! I absolutely couldn’t resist this Simplicity pattern when I came across it at Joann’s. I was inspired by the fabric choice on the picture and went with a gauzy cotton, something breathable that wouldn’t weigh down those amazing sleeves and could easily transition into summer.
The Pattern: Simplicity 8839
The Fabric: Cotton rayon gauze in BLUSH, c/o Stylish Fabric (check out all their other colors! I had a hard time deciding!)
The Process: This shirt came together easily - I love the cleverness of the sleeves. It’s simply bias tape with elastic inserted on the inside. The fabric was great to work with and the linen-look make it easy to keep everything squared along the textured lines.
Modifications: No mods for this top, I sewed a straight size 8 in Simplicity sizing. I find the ease around the bust and the placement of the shoulder seams (something I always struggle with) to be just right!
Styling & Versatility: I LOVE this top paired with my recently made Persephone Pants. Can’t wait to try it layered under something, perhaps a York Pinafore or some overalls! The fabric is casual enough, that while the sleeves are quite a statement, I feel very comfortable in this shirt and even wore to a half-day seminar with no problems.
Overall Review: Cute top that makes me feel a bit sassy but doesn’t take away from comfort. Woot! For the amount of volume and statement that’s created, it was surprisingly simple to do! I would reccomend this pattern for sure!
